RISHABH PANT, who has toured Australia twice for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is expected to be in the spotlight once again when the bilateral series begins in November. The wicketkeeper-batter has been one of India’s biggest match-winners in the red-ball format, and the onus will be on him to deliver away from home.
In a hilarious video, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, and Usman Khawaja praised Pant as a very funny man, known for his antics behind the wicket.
In a Star Sports video, the Australian trio chose Pant as the biggest sledger from the Indian team, stating that most of the time, what Pant says doesn’t make sense to them. However, they agreed that the Indian youngster is always funny.
Pant’s Response
In the same video, Pant clarified that he never sledges with a particular purpose but does it because he enjoys it. He also revealed that during the team’s meeting with the Australian Prime Minister, even the PM recognized him, saying, “You’re the one who sledges.”
A Famous Sledge
One of Pant’s most famous sledges came in the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, when he took on then-Australia captain Tim Paine and mocked him by calling him the ‘temporary captain.’ The sledge was picked up by the stump mic and has since become a memorable moment in cricket history.
The exact quote from Pant was: “We have got a special guest here. Have you heard the word temporary captain ever? You [Jadeja] don’t need anything to get him out. Come on lads. He loves to talk, that’s the only thing he can do. Only talking talking.”
A Good Note
However, it all ended on a good note between Pant and Paine as the Australian captain’s wife posed for a photograph with the India wicketkeeper, calling him ‘the best babysitter.’
Upcoming Series
The Indian team is expected to arrive in Australia in the first week of November. The team will play a few tour games and then play the showpiece 5-match Test series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is highly anticipated, and Pant’s sledging antics are expected to be a highlight of the series.
