Susie Wiles firmly rejects Musk’s West Wing office request, asserting control over Trump’s second term.
DONALD TRUMP’S new chief of staff, Susie Wiles, has swiftly established her no-nonsense approach to running a disciplined and focused White House.
Her first major decision was to reject Elon Musk’s request for an office in the West Wing, signaling her intent to maintain order and control as Trump prepares for his second term, writes Stephen M. Lepore in dailymail.co.uk
Musk, often referred to as “First Buddy” due to his close ties with Trump, had reportedly sought a private office near the Oval Office. However, Wiles shut down the request, instead assigning Musk’s DOGE team to the Eisenhower Building across from the White House.
This marks a sharp departure from the first term, where Musk was frequently by Trump’s side, sometimes sitting in the Oval Office during bill signings.
The report also highlights the growing influence of Musk, with some Democrats jokingly referring to him as the “co-president.” Yet, Wiles has moved quickly to set boundaries, ensuring that Musk’s role remains in check.
“She has an abundance of charm, and she’ll need every bit of it to survive this job,” said Chris Whipple, author of The Gatekeepers, praising Wiles’ ability to navigate the dynamics of Trump’s inner circle.
Contrasting with the chaotic environment of Trump’s first term, where power struggles and infighting were rampant, Wiles has adopted a strict approach to leadership. “I don’t welcome people who want to work solo or be a star,” she said in a pre-inauguration interview with Axios. “My team and I will not tolerate backbiting, second-guessing inappropriately, or drama. These are counterproductive to the mission.”
Wiles, known as the “Ice Maiden” by Trump himself, is committed to instilling discipline and teamwork in the West Wing. “The West Wing staff is a mix of new and veterans — many are young, all are prepared to work punishing hours,” she said, emphasizing her focus on unity and efficiency.
Trump has praised Wiles’ leadership, calling her “tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected,” and expressing confidence in her ability to deliver results.
Wiles has also implemented a social media ban for Trump’s Cabinet nominees, instructing them to refrain from posting without prior approval, further demonstrating her firm control.
As the Trump administration gears up for its second term, Wiles’ leadership style is already being tested. Despite the challenges ahead, many believe she has the right mix of skills and temperament to manage the complexities of the White House.
As expert pollster Frank Luntz put it, “She’s got the right heart and she’s got the right skills for this — if anyone’s going to succeed, it’s her.”
With her firm stance, Wiles is poised to ensure that the chaos of the first term does not repeat itself, making it clear that Musk’s ambitions for a more prominent role in the West Wing have been firmly dashed.
