The rising tensions, including incidents of religious polarization, raise critical questions about the future of the country’s constitutional values.
Though sending Muslims to gas chambers has not yet begun in India, we seem to be well on our way to our own Final Solution.
In Nazi Germany a large number of Germans shouted ‘Sieg Heil‘ and ‘Heil Hitler’ like robots and zombies after Hitler came to power in 1933, and committed numerous atrocities on Jews, leading upto their ‘resettlement’ ( a euphemism for murder) in Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, Chelmno, etc.
Though we have not gone so far as yet in India, we are certainly heading in that direction, with India’s much flaunted ‘secularism’ exposed as a fraud, and its ‘democracy’ converted into neo-fascism, with all state institutions ‘saffronised’.
Lynching of Muslims, brutally beating them for not saying Jai Shri Ram, bulldozing their houses, and keeping them in jail for years on end on fake and frivolous charges, etc has been going on ever since the BJP came to power in the Centre in 2014, with our largely compromised judiciary and police complicit in such atrocities and outrages, or turning a Nelson’s eye to them.

Of late, fresh atrocities on Muslims have occurred, sparking national outrage. For instance, in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim couple was forced to give up their newly purchased home in an upscale residential colony after facing protests from Hindu residents.
Protesting residents raised slogans against the former owner Dr Ashok Bajaj, asking him to take the house back
The protesters argued that the couple’s presence near a local temple was “unacceptable” and cited concerns about the safety of their women.
The Hindu residents, led by figures like Megha Arora, demanded that the house sale be revoked. Under pressure, the couple decided to resell the house to a Hindu family, highlighting the deep-seated discrimination and segregation still thriving in Indian urban centers.
This is not an isolated event. Discrimination against Muslims in housing has been widely reported across states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and even the capital, Delhi.
This societal segregation undermines the very idea of a secular democracy and feeds into the larger narrative of religious polarisation fostered by political interests.
Will such diabolical savagery and barbarism against Muslims ever end? I submit it will not under the system of parliamentary democracy, which in India largely runs on the basis of caste and communal vote banks.
Hindus are 80% of India’s population, and the BJP claims to represent the Hindus.
However, the truth is that Hindus are not united but are divided on caste lines. The BJP’s solid vote bank is the Hindu upper castes (Bramins, Rajputs, Vaishyas, Bhumihars, etc) but these collectively are only about 18% of the population, not enough to win an election.
However, when communal passions are aroused (as it happened in the Ram Janmabhoomi agitation led by Advani) all Hindus tend to unite. So it is in the interest of the BJP to keep the communal pot boiling, in order to win elections.
There are 28 states and 8 union territories in India, so at most times somewhere or the other elections are being held, or their preparations or campaigns are going on. So India is perpetually in an election mode, and therefore the communal fire must be kept perpetually burning.
After the parliamentary elections of 2024 in which the BJP suffered a setback ( Its seats in the 545 member Lok Sabha went down from 303 to 240 thus reducing it to a minority in the House) many people thought that the party will now go downhill.
But with its subsequent massive victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and the UP bye elections, as well as it’s surprising victory in the Haryana Assembly elections (against all predictions) it has become evident that the BJP has had a resurgence, and will now up the ante in its communal politics and resume its attacks against Muslims.
One can only hope that this will not end in a Final Solution.
